Cookbook finds

I was lucky enough to receive, via a most sharp-eyed friend in Paris, a full set of Carême's L'Art de la cuisine française (volume three has a few wine stains and four what look like three of the four mother sauces--the three light ones). He also sent along what he claims is Escoffier's recipe for pêche Melba.

Been spending time at Oxbridge--Papa has not responded to my most recent plea. The little darlings are so tedious, but it pays the bills.

Time to order nouveau

Ordered a case of Château Ste. Dympna Beaujolais nouveau. Recently heard about a white nouveau from Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence; will have to inquire with the wine merchant.

Cellaring

Papa's latest largesse has arrived. It's a good thing I enjoy the wines from home, since he is so liberal with them, compared to his purse. Quite surprising, really, considering the devastation occuring in so many vineyards. I suppose I should just enjoy it while it lasts.

Today: a case of Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande for special occasions and six cases of Château Duhart-Milon-Rothschild for table wine.

Last night at the club Ralph mentioned rumors of a strange illness among the tinies of Tanglewood. I do hope it's nothing serious.

Scritch, scritch

How is this paper?

Hmm. And I don't know if I like the pen. And this ink! Oh, privations.
